+ Seven!!!

My big news is that I am confirmed pregnant with my seventh baby! I'm about six weeks along and due in the middle of June! It's crazy I know but I'm really happy about it and we're going to have at least three infants all at the same time here!

The reality that our nice house isn't big enough has Steve planning a new part of the house to connect the guest house to the main house and that will make it all one big house. It's too late in the season to do anything right now but he is thinking to start on it in the spring. He's agreed to make the extension look just like the rest of the house so it fits in. Our old house in California was kind of bad with it being like four different houses all up against each other and it looked tacky.

To answer the two questions on the last post that look like they're from the same person:

1. Are you going to delete your Yahoo account like so many other poly people are doing right now?

A: Why would I delete my Yahoo account? I changed the password and that should be fine.

2. So if your daughters want to get married at 16 to some older man are you going to be okay with it?

A: Yes, I will. I mean it has to be legal but I'd say yes if that's what they wanted to do. I wish I had done that myself and I wish I knew I could have done it. My parents probably would have been happy to get me out of the house anyway.

I don't know why people get so upset about this kind of thing because it used to be normal in the USA. My great-grandmother was 13 when she married my 16yo great-grandfather in Nebraska and no one thought they were crazy or anything it was just normal. Not every girl should be forced to go to college and have massive college debts that she can't ever pay off. There is NOTHING wrong with wanting to grow up to be a mom and a wife and I'm really not that patient with people who think you're a loser if you want to be old fashioned.

My question now to everyone else is do you think it's wrong for a 16yo girl to get married and start a family if that's what she wants to do? Also, please say when/if you got married and why that was right for you or if you'd do it any other way.

Happy Fall to everyone!

Hugs and Love,

Megan

  2. That is so true... Just like when people said the dark ages were terrible, but yet the average person only worked about 150 days a year and not all day long either...

This appears to be a valuable tradition (poly) that not only has biblical backing, but also is supported by many cultures over the course of thousands of years.

My wife and I are very interested in this ancient tradition and liturgical lifestyle and we hope to meet others.

  5. Congratulations, Megan!

And, no, I do not find it wrong for a sixteen year old woman to get married and start a family if that's what she really wants to do.

  6. I absolutely believe that young women should be supported and encouraged if they want to become good wives and mothers. Making a home and caring for children are tremendously important skills, and well worth a woman's time and attention. I don't think that the teenage years are the best time for marriage and motherhood, however; most young women are too immature to fully realize what's involved and can benefit from at least a couple of years in college, sharpening a talent or skill, or working in the business world. I married in my early twenties, which was perfect for me!

  7. Young women marrying at 16 is more complex than yes or no. Until about 1900, girls reached menarche usually around 17-18. They typically married between 15 and 17, so they were intimate with their hubbies for some time before they were fertile. It turns out that a woman's immune system rejects the foreign DNA from her husband, including that in her fetus. But if her husband's sperm is introduced frequently before she conceives, her immune system learns to tolerate that particular DNA, so many possible problems of pregnancy are avoided.

Human brains are not fully formed until one's mid-twenties. The last mental ability to mature is long term reasoning. So young people cannot think clearly about long term consequences until their upper twenties. A 16 year old girl cannot form the concepts of how committed marriage and motherhood will make her. So there is that.

Since about 1900, the age of menarche has been getting rapidly younger, and now averages in the early teens. Puberty also is occurring in girls' early teens. So a 14 year old girl is still a girl mentally, and probably emotionally, but her body is a woman's and she's physically ready for first conception. Her hormones will be active causing her to yearn for romance, marriage, and the blessings of womanhood, including children.

I think it best to try to hold young women back until they are 18, or more. I don't think it right to use force or coercion to hold them back, but to teach them why they should wait and to encourage (and chaperone) them to be patient. There are some real advantages to waiting until one's upper twenties and some real reasons why post pubescent girls want to mate and have a baby in the early teens. An age is a compromise. I vote 18 or older for all girls that can be persuaded to wait. Boys and men who pursue girls under 18 should be punished by law, maybe fined. I didn't let my daughters date until they were 16. I held them back hard enough that some of them cheated and went on dates without permission.
